| Old Farm Day |
John, Jack and I spent this past weekend with our close friends, the Watts, in Charlottesville. John is about to get crazy at work…if the rain ever lets up... so we decided to take this chance to have a nice weekend away with friends.
As per usual, Vernon had the weekend planned to a “T” and did not disappoint. On Saturday, We visited Fluvanna County for Old Farm Day where I tried successfully to enjoy myself whilst not causing any bodily harm to a certain four year old that wanted NOTHING but “candy cotton”.
After walking for miles and miles, we then visited Keswick vineyards, in where else, Keswick, VA. We enjoyed some marvelous wine under a gazebo overlooking the property. While relaxing and watching the resident cat lounge around, we feasted on my new favorite snack… Trader Joe’s honey goat cheese, topped with their pumpkin butter, spread on a club cracker. Out of this world!
| Fuji Apples Chiles Orchard |
Sunday we visited Chiles Orchard in Crozet, VA. Did you know that pick your own apples cost $1.19 a pound??!! I did all of the work!!! Phhppt! However, I’m sure I’ll make a yummy pie with the fruits of my labor. It was a nice orchard, not crowded at all. They seem to specialize in peaches rather than apples though. When picking apples and taking photos of picking apples one can really work up an appetite. Thankfully Vernon was Johnny (Appleseed) on the spot! He suggested we visit Crozet Pizza.

We entered this tiny little storefront in what I can only assume was downtown Crozet. Looking around I first noticed the thousands of aging business cards plastered to the walls. We were greeted by our server and seated with a birds-eye view of the tiny open kitchen. The tables are pre-set with Chinet paper plates and silverware. The menu, either a well-worn, single sided laminated piece of paper or the chalkboard were easy to navigate…your menu choices: PIZZA! No slices, just whole pies made into almost any combination you can imagine. We opted out of the “October Special” which consisted of meatballs, red peppers, mushrooms and …….peanuts. Although after eating 2 huge slices of our own creation, I began planning a return trip where I just might have to give the peanuts a try! This was by far the best pizza I’ve had the pleasure of eating. Apparently, the likes of Muhammad Ali, Dave Matthews and Sissy Spacek have all enjoyed what Crozet Pizza has to offer as well. Glad to know I’m in odd but good company.
Hope your weekend was as great as mine was.
